The Virgin Islands Port Authority
(VIPA) was created by the Legislature of the Virgin Islands on Dec. 24, 1968 through Act 2375. The Authority was established as a semi-autonomous agency which owns, develops, operates and manages all of the air and marine ports in the United States Virgin Islands. It was also charged with controlling the harbors in the Territory. However, it does not control the mooring and anchoring of vessels. The law stipulates that VIPA must make its properties available to the public so that the populace may reap the benefits of these facilities. |
