Construction surveys (e.g. layout, measurement, payment and/or acceptance of completed work)
Arc Surveying & Mapping, Inc. has provided the Jacksonville District and its construction contractors with layout, measurement, payment and acceptance surveys on some of the largest construction projects undertaken by the District. During 1998 Arc Surveying & Mapping, Inc. was contracted by the Jacksonville District ACOE to perform a pre-construction survey of the excavated surface of the Portugues Dam in preparation for Dam construction. Arc Surveying & Mapping, Inc. not only performed the survey to the required specifications but returned later at its own expense to perform the first ever pre-construction laser scan survey of a construction project in the District as a potential means of collecting more surface data for better dam construction quantities but also as a safer method of surveying the Dam. Years later Arc Surveying & Mapping, Inc. would return to laser scan the Dam foundation concrete forms at the request of the ACOE Resident Engineer to assure the correct placement for the first (base) layer of roller concrete dam construction materials.
During 2015 Arc Surveying & Mapping, Inc. provided a topographic survey, dike construction layout, pre-construction and monthly payment estimate surveys including quantities on the Carters Contracting, LLC ACOE disposal area construction project at Tampa, Florida. Having many years of construction surveying and computing experience and understanding the need for an accurate account of earthwork quantities prior to the start of work, Arc Surveying & Mapping, Inc. provided the contractor with plotted cross-sections, end areas and mass volumes of the quantities required to complete the earthwork to ACOE specifications. Arc Surveying & Mapping, Inc. crews completed the pre-construction ground surface survey, our MicroStation technician generated pre-construction quantities based on ACOE contact plan design. An advantage of utilizing Arc’s experienced project managers, surveyors and CAD technicians is evident as they recognized topographic variances from design as they occurred due to misplaced materials, subsidence etc.
Arc Surveying & Mapping, Inc. is performing another topographic construction survey, construction layout and surveys for payment for Carters Contracting on the ACOE, Central and Southern Florida Project for Flood Control and Other Purposes; C-111 Detention Area and Other Features, Miami Dade County, Florida. As on all construction layout projects and as part of Arc’s QC/QA program, all stakeout and grade data provided to Arc Surveying & Mapping, Inc. jobsite personnel from contract documents is resurveyed upon placement at the site and rechecked for accuracy in the office for project management review. In addition, Arc Surveying & Mapping, Inc. has chosen this project to determine the feasibility of utilizing AUV’s versus conventional survey techniques. Details of the highly successful experiment follow.
